We have a Travel Doctor who is an expert in everything travel related.
Recommended vaccines for these regions are:
- Twinrix for Hepatitis A and B
- Usual innoculations should be up to date including MMR and DPT
- Yellow fever
Yellow fever is highly unlikely for where we will be and our Dr advised we don’t need it. However, South African law requires all travelers entering from Zambia must show proof of yellow fever inoculation or a legal exemption certificate which we got from our travel Dr.
In addition, malaria is prevalent in certain regions of Africa including those on our trip and we will be taking prophylactic Malarone pills as well as using high DEET level insect repellent and wearing the proper attire (see Packing section).
Our Dr. also gave us Cipro (for bacterial infections) as well as sleeping medication for the long flights and I have also packed Purell towelettes and gel, Polysporin, Advil, Advil Cold & Sinus, Band aids, Gravol and Benadryl.
